Meet the Creator - Karolina J. Barrett
Interior Designer · Author · Wellbeing Expert · Neuroscience · Neuropsychology · Somatic Experiencing® (SE™) Coach
Karolina J. Barrett is an internationally recognized, award-winning interior designer, author, and founder of Karolina Barrett Interiors. Born and educated in Europe and now based in California, she brings to her work a perspective shaped by two worlds – European refinement and craftsmanship, and the openness, natural beauty, and mindful spirit of West Coast living.
For more than two decades, Karolina has created highly personalized interiors distinguished by timeless aesthetics, thoughtful materiality, and a deep sensitivity to the people who inhabit them. Over time, her work evolved beyond the traditional boundaries of interior design, leading her to explore more deeply how the built environment influences perception, emotion, sensory experience, behavior, and the nervous system.
This exploration brought together neuroscience, neuroaesthetics, psychology, wellbeing science, and Somatic Experiencing® (SE™), gradually shaping the interdisciplinary approach that defines her practice. To deepen her understanding of the human being, Karolina pursued professional certifications in Neuroscience Coaching, Neuropsychology Coaching, and Somatic Experiencing (SE), creating a unique foundation at the intersection of design, brain, body, and wellbeing.
Her work as an author further expanded this inquiry. In Beyond Design, Karolina explores the relationship between neuroscience, mindfulness, sensory experience, personalization, and the environments we inhabit. Her forthcoming book, Designing Wellbeing, moves beyond the physical environment into the wider conditions of everyday life – including restoration, daily rhythms, relationships, health, and the ways we create a life that supports wellbeing.
Today, this body of knowledge informs the continuing development of The KBI NeuroDesign Method™, a proprietary methodology shaped over years of research, professional study, and design practice.
Karolina’s work has received international recognition from the International Design Awards and Americas Property Awards, including The Best of California distinction. In 2026, Karolina Barrett Interiors received the Global Elite Award as Leading Luxury Bespoke Interior Design Atelier in United States of America, recognizing the studio’s distinctive integration of bespoke design, craftsmanship, wellbeing, and NeuroDesign.
At the heart of her work remains a belief that has come to define her practice:
Exceptional design should never ask us to choose between beauty and wellbeing. The most meaningful spaces give us both.
My Beliefs
I believe great designers must have a MULTI-FACETED PERSONALITY, that needs to not only have knowledge about interior design, but also psychology. Not only must they know how design affects emotions and behavior, but also have knowledge about the psychology of people; to be able to read and understand the clients they are working for, to reflect their needs and personalities in a space.
They should be GOOD LISTENERS, to create a tailor-made space for a specific person, knowing that interior design can positively or negatively impact stress levels, affect mood and nervousness, and help you to heal.
I believe in EXPERIENCE. Education provides a strong foundation of design theory, techniques, and skills, as well as knowledge of building codes, safety regulations, and sustainability. However theory is nothing without experience, because experience allows an interior designer to apply their knowledge and skills to real-life complex projects. Experience is what we trust. Experience is our most valuable asset.
Lastly, I believe that in order to give a real service, we must add something that cannot be bought or measured with money; this is SINCERITY, INTEGRITY, KINDNESS and AUTHENTICITY.
My Work
I have worked as a LUXURY DESIGNER for over two decades, and have been honored with features in many top-shelf publications all over the world and well as awarded with International Design Awards. Despite it all, my mission remains constant— service—to help others, and improve their life by my designs and the value it gives them.
My European education provided the best foundation in classic and contemporary European design, allowing me to blend old-world charm with modern innovation seamlessly. With a deep respect for classical interiors, yet a keen eye for modern elegance, I love creating spaces that are tailor-made and bespoke, ensuring no two projects are ever the same. They are impeccably detailed, featuring custom furniture, rare materials, and handcrafted finishes, harmonious and timeless, drawing inspiration from the whole world I was lucky to travel.
With projects spanning from France, through Dubai to California, I have been entrusted by high-net-worth individuals to create interiors that are as functional as they are beautiful.
My work is focused on the smallest details, custom solutions, and delivering uniqueness. It is a world of elegance and sophistication. It is a realm where personal touches, functionality, and excellence come together to create BREATHTAKING SPACES.
Welcome to my world. A world of passion, beauty, unparalleled elegance and bespoke craftsmanship. I will transform your space into a masterpiece of European luxury with a blend of American taste.

For more than two decades, Karolina has created deeply personal interiors distinguished by timeless aesthetics, thoughtful materiality, and an intuitive understanding of the people who inhabit them. Over time, her work evolved beyond the traditional boundaries of interior design, leading her to explore more deeply how the built environment influences perception, emotion, behavior, sensory experience, and the nervous system.
This exploration brought together neuroscience, neuropsychology, neuroaesthetics, environmental psychology, wellbeing science, and Somatic Experiencing, gradually shaping the interdisciplinary approach that defines her practice.
From this foundation, Karolina developed a design philosophy in which beauty is not simply visual. Light, proportion, materiality, color, sound, nature, spatial rhythm, memory, and personal meaning all contribute to how an environment is experienced by the body and mind.
It is an approach that begins not with a prescribed aesthetic, but with the individual.
No two people experience a space in exactly the same way. Our histories, cultures, associations, sensory preferences, daily rhythms, relationships, and nervous systems influence what allows us to feel at home. Meaningful design, therefore, must go beyond how an environment looks to consider how it supports the way we live, feel, restore, connect, and thrive.
This thinking became the foundation of The KBI NeuroDesign Method™, an approach that brings together design expertise, scientific insight, deep personalization, and an understanding of human wellbeing to create environments around the people who inhabit them.
Her exploration extends beyond the studio into her work as an author. In Beyond Design, Karolina examines the relationship between neuroscience, perception, emotion, personalization, and the environments we inhabit. In Designing Wellbeing, that inquiry expands into the wider conditions of a well-lived life, from our daily rhythms and sensory experiences to restoration, connection, health, and the environments that support them. Together, her design practice, writing, and continuing study reflect a belief that has come to define her work:
The future of exceptional design is not simply about creating more beautiful places. It is about creating environments that understand us.
For Karolina, this is where a new definition of luxury begins – not with excess, but with wellbeing. Not simply with what surrounds us, but with how those surroundings allow us to live. Because the most meaningful spaces do more than reflect who we are. They support who we have the potential to become.
Karolina’s work has received international recognition for its artistry, refinement, and emotional depth. Her projects have been honored by the International Design Awards for three consecutive years, including residential work in New York, Lake Tahoe, and Rancho Santa Fe. In 2025–2026, her Organic Chic. Rancho Santa Fe Kitchen received the Best of California distinction at the Americas Property Awards, part of the International Property Awards program.
In 2026, Karolina was also named recipient of the Global Elite Award for Leading Luxury Bespoke Interior Design Atelier in the United States of America.
These recognitions reflect a body of work shaped by craftsmanship, individuality, and an evolving philosophy in which beauty and wellbeing are inseparable.

Meet the Creator - Karolina Barrett

CEO & Chief Designer, Karolina Barrett Interiors
Karolina J. Barrett is an internationally recognized interior designer, author, and founder of Karolina Barrett Interiors, an award-winning luxury design studio celebrated for its deeply sensory and emotionally intelligent approach to interiors.
Born and educated in Europe and now based in California, Karolina brings a global perspective that unites classical European refinement with the mindful spirit of West Coast living. Her work explores how interiors shape the human experience—how light, form, and material influence not only what we see, but how we feel, think, and connect.
Drawing from neuroscience, psychology, and her own journey across cultures, Karolina designs environments that awaken the senses while restoring calm, balance, and meaning. She believes that design is not decoration, but dialogue—a continuous exchange between the body and the spaces that hold it.
Over the past decade, her philosophy has evolved into what she calls Beyond Design—a synthesis of science, soul, and sensory experience that views the home as a living system, one that responds to our nervous system, rituals, and emotions. Her mission is to craft interiors that promote emotional harmony, cognitive well-being, and a deeper sense of connection.
“Design is a neurological and emotional journey. It should ground us, reflect who we are, and unlock our highest potential—both personally and professionally.”
My Beliefs
Karolina’s projects have been celebrated internationally for their artistry, clarity, and emotional depth. Her work has been recognized by the International Design Awards (IDA) for three consecutive years:

2024 — Honorable Mention for the Rancho Santa Fe Kitchen, category: Residential Interior Design – Luxury Living
In 2025–2026, the same project—“Organic Chic. Rancho Santa Fe Kitchen”—received The Best of Californiadistinction at the Americas Property Awards, part of the globally renowned International Property Awards program. These honors celebrate the highest levels of achievement across the international design and real estate industries and reflect Karolina’s continued dedication to creating spaces where aesthetics, craftsmanship, and well-being exist in harmony.
A multi-disciplinary creative—designer, author, and visual storyteller—Karolina continues to explore the intersection of design and neuroscience. Her books, Beyond Borders and Beyond Design, form a bridge between the inner and outer worlds: between the spaces we inhabit and the spaces that live within us.
Her approach blends emotional intelligence, functionality, and artisan-level detail, resulting in spaces that are expressive, sophisticated, and profoundly human.
